Authorities have identified the Fort Bliss, Texas, soldier found unconscious on Sunday at Camp Hovey, South Korea, as a cannon crewmember with the 1st Armored Division.

Sgt. Marcos Aguon, 28, of 4th Battalion, 1st Field Artillery Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division was pronounced dead at a local hospital, according to a release from 3rd BCT.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to Sgt. Marcos Aguon’s family for their loss,” said Lt. Col. Jason Carter, his battalion commander. “Sgt. Aguon was a noncommissioned officer that everyone looked up to and an integral member of the Defender battalion. His unfortunate passing will be felt by us all."

His death is under investigation, the release said.

The Guam native joined the Army in 2015 and had been stationed at Fort Bliss since May of that year.

The 3rd BCT, 1st AD has been in South Korea as part of an armored brigade rotation since late October.
