A soldier based out of Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington was killed Sunday during a training accident on post, service officials said Monday.
Spc. Drew Watters, 23, served with 4th Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, part of the 2nd Infantry Division’s 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, according to division spokesman Lt. Col. Roger Cabiness.
Cabiness did not provide any other details regarding Watters' death Monday, including the location of the training and what led to the infantryman’s death.
The Evansville, Indiana, native enlisted in 2015 and had been with the brigade since September 2017, according to Cabiness.
“Spc. Watters was a leader, husband, and father who will be sorely missed by all,” brigade commander Col. Jay Miseli said in a statement.
The cause of Watters' death is under investigation.
