A Fort Drum soldier was shot in the leg Monday during training at the New York-based Army post.

The soldier was participating in a mounted gunnery exercise when he sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg, according to a Fort Drum news release.

The soldier, who was not named, is assigned to 2nd Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division.

The soldier was evacuated via helicopter from Range 24 to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse and was in stable condition, the release said.

No other details were available, and the incident is under investigation.
