One crew member has died and two more are injured following a helicopter crash Monday in southern Maryland, according to an Army release.
The UH-60 Black Hawk, assigned to the 12th Aviation Battalion at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, went down at 1:37 p.m. local time during a training flight, landing at the Breton Bay Golf Course in Leonardtown, Maryland, the release said.
"We are deeply saddened by this loss within our community," said Maj. Gen. Bradley Becker, commander of the Army Military District of Washington. "Our condolences go out to the families and friends affected by this tragedy, and our team is focused on supporting them during this difficult time."
The soldier who died was medically evacuated from the scene, while two more were transported to the University of Maryland R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. One is in serious condition, and the other is in critical condition, according to the release.
A team from the Army Combat Readiness Center at Fort Rucker, Alabama, home of Army aviation, will be on site Tuesday to conduct an investigation into the crash, the release said.
