NORTON, Ohio — A 43-year-old National Guard officer from Norton died of an apparent heart attack during training at Camp Atterbury, Indiana, officials said.
Capt. Brian Stillman collapsed Friday afternoon while training at Camp Atterbury in Edinburgh, roughly 25 miles south of Indianapolis.
An autopsy showed that he had a heart attack, according to a release from the Bartholomew County coroner's office that was reported Tuesday in The Indianapolis Star.
On Friday, Stillman was taking part in a training exercise to prepare units for deployment, and conducting land navigation training when he collapsed, Stephanie Beougher, a spokeswoman for the Ohio Adjutant General's Department, said in The Star's report.
Stillman was given CPR before medics arrived, but Guard officials say he couldn't be revived. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The married father of two had been in the Ohio Army National Guard for 19 years. He had served as operations officer for 2nd Battalion, 174th Air Defense Artillery Brigade.
