A 23-year-old cook assigned to a deployed Special Forces group is the fourth soldier from that unit to die during their current mission.
Spc. Isiah Booker was operating construction equipment when he was killed Saturday in a non-combat related accident in Jordan, according to a Defense Department release. He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group.
Three Green Berets were killed in November after they reportedly came under fire while entering a Jordanian military base. Like Booker, the soldiers were deployed to Jordan to support Operation Inherent Resolve.
About 2,000 troops are on the ground there to advise and assist the Jordanian military in the fight against the Islamic State.
Booker enlisted in early 2014 and completed basic training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, before reporting to 2nd Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, his only unit to date.
"He served with the unit for nearly two and a half years, and he had deployed twice overseas," 5th Special Forces Group spokesman Maj. Fred Hair told Army Times on Monday.
He earned five Army Achievement Medals, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Basic Parachutist Badge, among other awards, Hair said.
