A soldier assigned to Fort Wainwright, Alaska, died in a vehicle accident in Fairbanks on Friday, U.S. Army Pacific announced Monday afternoon.
Pfc. Logan Scott Cote, 19, of Austin, Texas, was a passenger in a vehicle that went off the road and overturned on the Johansen Expressway in Fairbanks, according to a USARPAC release. He was killed in the single-vehicle incident, according to the release, which cited a report by the Fairbanks Police Department.
USARPAC officials did not release any further details about the incident or the identity or condition of the driver as of Monday. Fairbanks police are investigating the incident.
Cote was a paralegal specialist with the U.S. Army Alaska Aviation Task Force's 1st Attack Reconnaissance Battalion, 25th Aviation Regiment, according to the release.
He joined the Army in July 2015 and attended training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and Fort Lee, Virginia, before going to Fort Wainwright in December 2015.
"Pfc. Cote was an exceptional young man who meant a lot to our Arctic Attack family, his loss is felt by our soldiers," said Lt. Col. Jaysen Yochim, commander of the 1-25th ARB, according to the release. "I am deeply saddened and offer my heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and soldier teammates of Pfc. Cote."
