A twice-deployed warrant officer who served 27 years in uniform died Aug. 17 at a hospital near Fort Hood after a long illness, the installation announced Tuesday.

Chief Warrant Officer 4 Brian Keith Pinckney, 48, had been with 11th Military Police Battalion's criminal investigation division since August 2014, according to a Fort Hood news release. He joined the Army in 1989 and attended Warrant Officer Candidate School in 2003.

Pinckney deployed twice in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (2004-05, 2008-09). He earned a Bronze Star Medal, four Meritorious Service Medals, three Army Commendation Medals and four Army Achievement Medals, among other awards and decorations.
