LARKSVILLE, Tenn. — The 101st Airborne Division played a major role in Operation Desert Storm.
In addition to being a part of the mission that fired the first shots on Jan. 17, 1991, the division carried out its largest air assault ever at the time on G-Day, Feb. 24, 1991.
The division flew about 90 miles into Iraq and set up Forward Operating Base Cobra, a key staging area and refueling point for further operations within the country.
By Feb. 28, a ceasefire had been announced and the U.S. declared Kuwait liberated from Iraq.
