Junior officers interested in moving to a specialty with good promotion and career prospects may do well to check out the warrant officer accessions program for CID special agents.

The Army's Criminal Investigation Command has expanded the eligibility pool for CID warrant officer candidates to include company grade commissioned officers and warrant officers in technical specialties outside the criminal investigation community.

The command also has opened warrant officer appointments to military police (MOS 31B) staff sergeants and sergeants first class who have criminal investigation training and experience.

Previously the warrant officer accessions effort has been limited to enlisted CID special agents in MOS 31D.

The Army continues to solicit 31D reclassification applications from qualified enlisted soldiers. For application details, access the "Join CID" link at the top of the Criminal Investigation Command homepage at www.cid.army.mil.

This is a priority specialty for the Army, and 31D is included in the Selective Retention Bonus program and the Special MOS Alignment Promotion Program.

The application deadline for first lieutenants, captains, chief warrant officers 2two, sergeants first class and staff sergeants seeking training and appointment as MOS 311A warrant officers is Feb. 1.

Basic eligibility requirements for officer applicants are:

  • U.S. citizenship, and the ability to receive a top secret clearance based on a single-scope investigation.
  • Have a General Technical (GT) score of 110, or higher, and a Skilled Technical (ST) score of 107 or higher, on the Armed Forces Vocational Aptitude Battery.
  • Be in compliance with Army physical fitness and weight control standards, have normal color vision and be able to deploy worldwide.
  • Have a record of sustained and demonstrated leadership competency as supported by raters and senior raters in performance evaluations.

Applications also are being accepted from staff sergeants and sergeants first class (not yet eligible for promotion to master sergeant) who are qualified Military Police investigators serving in enlisted MOS 31B (military police).

Candidates must hold skill identifier V5 (MP investigator) and have at least two years of experience in conducting criminal investigations.

NCOs must meet the same citizenship, aptitude test score, security clearance and performance evaluation requirements as officers, as well as:

  • Staff sergeants must be graduates of the Advanced Leader Course, and sergeants first class the Senior Leader Course.
  • Hold a bachelor's degree or higher.

Officers and NCOs who are interested in becoming a warrant officer CID special agent should contact their local Criminal Investigation Command office for application forms, and assistance in submitting the applications packet.

As part of the application process, soldiers must complete an interview with the local CID special agent-in-charge.

Recruiting Command conducts warrant officer candidate selection boards bi-monthly. During 2016, application packets for MOS 311A are scheduled to be reviewed by boards that meet in mid-May and mid-July.
