COLUMBIA, S.C. — The commander of the South Carolina National Guard is commending pilots and crews of its Apache helicopter unit for winning a seven-state "gunfighter" competition.

Maj. Gen. Robert Livingston will recognize Friday members of the 1-151st Attack Reconnaissance Battalion, which earned the highest score in the four-day competition held last week in Arizona.

Guard spokesman Capt. Brian Hare said Guard units also came from Arizona, Idaho, Missouri, North Carolina, Texas and Utah.

It was the first time such a competition was held, and was held to hone participants' war-fighting skills. The contests included crew challenges, gunnery skills tests and live-fire competitions.

The recognition event has been scheduled for 10 a.m. EST at the Guard's Adjutant General building in Columbia.
