ST. INIGOES, Md. — The Army National Guard is opening a new hangar for unmanned aircraft at the Navy's Webster Field in southern Maryland.
Maj. Gen. Linda Singh is hosting the ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday afternoon near St. Inigoes in St. Mary's County.
Sgt. 1st Class Thaddeus Harrington says the nearly 10,000-square-foot operations and maintenance facility houses three Shadow 200 drones. The unarmed aircraft are used for visual surveillance from altitudes of up to 8,000 feet.
Manufacturer Textron Systems Corp. says the aircraft can see targets up to 77 miles away.
