MINDEN, La. — The U.S. Army is joining a committee set up to discuss how to dispose of millions of pounds of M6 propellant.

That's according to the Minden Press-Herald which reported Tuesday that Army officials will join a dialogue committee hashing out how to choose a method and company to dispose of the propellant.

Dialogue committee facilitator Doug Sarno hopes the Army officials will be on the next conference call Wednesday.

Authorities say there are 15 million pounds of M6 propellant at Camp Minden.

The M6 was abandoned on site by Explo Systems Inc. after it went bankrupt in 2013. An explosion in October 2012 in one of Explo's leased bunkers rattled homes, shattered windows 4 miles away in Minden and created a 7,000-foot mushroom cloud.
