DENVER — A former Fort Carson employee who made threats against the Colorado Springs-area Army base has been sentenced to 16 months in federal prison.
The Denver Post reports 55-year-old Douglas Kunz, a former butcher at Fort Carson's commissary store, was sentenced Tuesday. He pleaded guilty in September to disrupting interstate commerce with threats of explosions or fire.
Prosecutors say Kunz made the threats in text and Facebook messages after his pleas for a transfer to a base in New Mexico had gone unheeded.
Four days after the April 2014 shooting rampage at Fort Hood, Kunz threatened a similar attack and said he would turn Fort Carson into "Fort Columbine." He also threatened the lives of the wives and sister of four of his former co-workers.
Kunz said Tuesday that he would have never carried out the threats.
