Flag- and guidon-bearing units that participated in Operations Restore Hope and United Shield are authorized to display the Armed Forces Expeditionary Campaign Streamer that recognizes their service in Somalia during 1992-1995.

The Center of Military History has verified the units that are eligible to receive the streamer, and has provided that information to the awards and decorations branch of Human Resources Command for publication as Army General Order 2014-73.

The specific eligibility period is Dec. 5, 1992 to March 31, 1995.

Units credited with participation in these operations are listed on the Army Publications Directorate website: http://armypubs.army.mil/epubs/pdf/go1473.pdf.

Units that participated in these operations, but are not listed in the general order, should request authorization through the Army Human Resources Command (Attn: AHRC-PDO-A, Dept. 480), Fort Knox, KY 40122-5408.

Streamers can be ordered through the Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command via the TACOM website at www.heraldry.army.mil by entering the unit identification code as part of the request.

The Armed Forces Expeditionary Streamer is in the colors of the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, an individual decoration that is authorized for soldiers who participated in Operations Restore Hope and United Shield.

The "Somalia 1992-1995" streamer increases to 188 the number of campaigns that are displayed with the Army flag, beginning with the Revolutionary War Battle of Lexington on April 19, 1775.

Twelve streamers have been authorized for the War on Terrorism, including the ongoing transition campaign in Afghanistan that began July 1, 2011, and that remains open.
