An Army C-27J plane and an Air Force C-130H "made contact" while in flight Monday near Fort Bragg, North Carolina, officials said Tuesday.

The incident happened about 8:30 p.m. Monday while the aircrews were conducting flight training, officials said.

Both aircraft landed safely. There were no reported injuries to the aircrew or civilians. Both aircraft sustained some damage, officials said.

The C-27J Spartan and the C-130 Hercules are both tactical transport planes designed for use on small, rough airfields.

The incident is under investigation. No other information was available Tuesday.
