An officer stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, died Tuesday of an apparent gunshot wound at his residence in Killeen, base officials said.
The death of 1st Lt. Brenton S. Dodgen, 28, is under investigation, officials said in a Wednesday news release. No further information was provided.
Dodgen entered service in 2011 as a signal officer, according to the release, and had been with Fort Hood-based 62nd Expeditionary Signal Battalion, 11th Signal Brigade, since July. He deployed to Afghanistan from June 2011 to June 2012 and to Kuwait from August 2013 until May.
He earned a Bronze Star Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with campaign star and Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, in addition to other awards and decorations.
