A 39-year-old officer stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, died Sunday at a nearby medical center as a result of a gunshot wound suffered at his off-post residence, installation officials announced Wednesday.
Capt. Benjamin Blaylock, of Spanish Fork, Utah, had served as a human resources officer with Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 3rd Battalion, 4th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 108th Air Defense Artillery Brigade. He joined the Army in 2010 and had been with the 108th since December, according to a Fort Bragg news release.
"Ben Blaylock was a valuable member of the Skystryker team," said Lt. Col. Chris Brough, commander of 3-4 ADAR, in the release. "Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this time of loss."
Blaylock earned the Army Commendation Medal and Army Achievement Medal with two oak leaf clusters, among other awards and decorations. He is survived by his wife, two children and parents.
An investigation into Blaylock's death is underway, per the release. Further details were not immediately available.
