The commanding general of the 1st Infantry Division has been suspended pending an investigation, the Army confirmed Friday.

Maj. Gen. Wayne Grigsby "is currently the subject of an official investigation, and we cannot comment further at this time," an Army official said in a statement.

Army officials declined to provide any additional information, including the nature of the investigation.

Grigsby took command of the 1st Infantry Division at Fort Riley, Kansas, in August 2015, according to his official bio.

He has served as the special assistant to the Army's deputy chief of staff for operations (G-3/5/7) in Washington, D.C., and as the commanding general of Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa.

He also spent time as the deputy commanding general of operations for the 1st Armored Division, the director of the Mission Command Center of Excellence, and the director of the School of Advanced Military Studies Program.

Grigsby commanded 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, leading his soldiers on a deployment to Iraq during the 2007 surge. He also served as commander of 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment.

A School of Advanced Military Studies graduate, Grigsby's awards and decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal with one oak leaf cluster, the Legion of Merit with five oak leaf clusters, the Bronze Star Medal with two oak leaf clusters, the Meritorious Service Medal with four oak leaf clusters and the Douglas MacArthur Leadership Award. He has earned the Expert and Combat Infantryman badges, the Senior Parachutist Badge, and the Ranger tab.
