The annual Army Competitive Category major selection board that meets March 30-April 24 will be immediately followed by another board that will slate promotion selectees for resident Intermediate Level Education schooling in 2016-2017.

ACC captains who are passed over for promotion will not be selected for either a 10-month resident ILE course at a command and staff college, or the ILE common core curriculum taught at several satellite campuses around the Army.

Under the new ILE format adopted by the Army two years ago, all active component officers of the basic branches will receive mid-career command and staff college-level schooling, but selections for the 10-month resident courses taught at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., and U.S. and foreign military schools are competitive.

Officers not selected for a 10-month course will attend the 14-week ILE courses taught at Fort Belvoir, Va.; Fort Lee, Va.; Fort Gordon, Ga., Redstone Arsenal, Ala., or the Advanced Operations Course delivered by the Army Command and General Staff College via distance learning.

The primary zone for the ACC major promotion board will include all captains with dates of rank of Jan. 30, 2009 through Jan. 31, 2010. Captains with DOR of Feb. 1, 2010 through March 8, 2011 will be in the below-zone category, while those with DOR of Jan. 29, 2009 will be in the above-zone category.

Officers of the medical, chaplain and legal branches will be designated for ILE attendance by special boards that meet May 4-20 for the Army Medical Department and Chaplain Corps, and Sept. 13-14 for the Judge Advocate's General Corps.

In addition to the Command and General Staff College course at Fort Leavenworth, other 10-month courses on the ILE listing include the Air Command and Staff College, Maxwell AFB, Ala.; the Naval Command and Staff College, Newport, R.I. and the Marine Command and General Staff College, Quantico, Va.

Foreign schools include the command and staff colleges of Argentina, Austria, Bangladesh, Estonia (the Baltic Nation's Defense College), Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Netherlands, Singapore and Spain.

To request attendance at a 10-month course, officers should submit a preference by April 15 using the online preference designator at HTTPS://KNOXHRC16.HRC.ARMY.MIL/AHRC/OSPP/HOME/HTDOCS/.
