In a brisk first day of sales for the new Army Combat Uniform, the Army sold 62,000 units of new items, from the ACU itself to accessories including boots, socks and t-shirts.
There were scattered reports online of some items running out quickly, but it was unclear whether any of the shortages stemmed from exhausted stock or simply the shelf being clear.
The ACU coat and trousers with the Operational Camouflage Pattern cost more than the old Universal Camouflage Pattern uniforms — about 15 percent more for the unisex version. A complete set of coat and trousers now sells for about $96, as opposed to $84. Female versions, which won't be available until September, rose less, from the same $84 per set to nearly $93.
Boots, belts, t-shirts, socks and patrol caps did not see any significant shift in price.
The new ACUs went on sale yesterday at: Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Fort Campbell, Kentucky; Fort Lewis, Washington; Fort Stewart, Georgia; Fort Benning, Georgia; Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; Fort Hood, Texas; Fort Drum, New York; Fort Carson, Colorado; Fort Polk, Louisiana; Fort Shafter, Hawaii; Fort Wainwright, Alaska; Fort Richardson, Alaska; and various installations in South Korea.
