Several seminars with strategic security themes are included in a new menu of broadening opportunities for officers, warrant officers and senior noncommissioned officers of the Regular Army and Army Reserve.
The seminars, which also are available to Army civilians, range from three to five weeks in length. They , and will take place be conducted later this year at nine civilian and military academic institutions in the United States, Great Britain and Israel.
An initiative of Army Chief of Staff Gen. Raymond Odierno, the seminars are designed to prepare soldiers and civilians for future leadership roles with Army, joint, interagency and multinational task forces and teams.
As students, selectees will interact with world-class academics, senior Army leaders, international and interagency partners and business executives in team-based, small groups.
The academic workload will culminate with a capstone project for presentation to a senior Army leader.
Soldiers do not incur an active-duty service obligation for participating in this program.
To qualify for participation, applicants of the Regular Army, Active Guard and Reserve (Army Reserve) Troop Program Unit, Individual Mobilization Augmentee program or Individual Ready Army Reserve must be in the grades of captain (year groups 2007-2010) and major; chief warrant two through four; sergeant first class through sergeant major, or GS-11 to GS-14.
Soldiers should apply for the program no later than April 3 using a DA Form 4187 (personnel action request) submitted to the Human Resources Command using procedures described in MilPer Message 15-042, dated Feb. 11.
Civilians should apply through their career program manager.

Provides promotable captains and junior majors with an opportunity to study at the master's level and enhance their strategic thinking. Instructors will include a mix of military staff and academics from King's College London and Cranfield University. Two seminars are slated for June 21-Aug. 1 and Sept. 20-Oct. 31.
University of North Carolina and the Institute for Defense and Business Strategic Studies Fellows Program, Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
Provides senior NCOs, chief warrant officers, captains and majors with an immersion in national security issues through non-military and business lenses. Provides sergeants major, promotable captains, majors, CW3s and CW4s with an opportunity to examine strategic issues and apply that understanding to current and future missions.
