A 30-year-old soldier was found dead outside his on-base quarters Sunday morning at Soto Cano Air Base, Honduras, according to a Joint Task Force-Bravo news release.

Spc. Kyle Gantt had been deployed to Honduras for about two months, the release states. A UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter crew member with 1st Battalion, 228th Aviation Regiment, Gantt enlisted in February 2012 and served in Afghanistan for nine months in 2014.

His death is under investigation, per the release. No further information was immediately available.

JTF-Bravo, one of two task forces under U.S. Southern Command, operates the Honduras base and performs security, disaster relief and multinational training operations throughout South and Central America, as well as the Caribbean.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family, friends, members of the 1-228th Winged Warriors, and all who are grieving the loss of Spc. Gantt," task force commander Col. Brian Hughes said in the release. "Our leaders, ministry teams and trained counselors are caring for those affected by this loss. We will continue to execute U.S. Southern Command's mission, the one Spc. Gantt so proudly carried out in service of our great nation."

Gantt, of Piqua, Ohio, earned the Air Medal and Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, among other honors. He is survived by his wife and two children, according to the release.
