Spouses and military kids can apply now for scholarships through Army Emergency Relief.
"This is a valuable opportunity for the children and spouses of Soldiers," Tammy LaCroix, manager for AER's scholarship programs, said in an Army news release. "We saw an increase in the number of applications last year and hope this trend continues this year."
The scholarships are only available for students pursuing their first undergraduate degree.
AER launched as a private nonprofit in 1942 to collect and hold funds to relieve distressed soldiers and their dependents. Based in Alexandria, Virginia, it bills itself as the Army's own emergency financial assistance organization dedicated to "helping the Army take care of its own," and serves active and retired soldiers as well as families of deceased soldiers. It offers a variety of loan, financial assistance and scholarship programs.
There are 81 AER Sections located at installations worldwide, and the organization also partners with other military aid organizations to expand its reach.
