Active-duty soldiers at Fort Benning, Georgia, can score up to four free tickets for the annual WWE "Tribute to the Troops" event starting next week.
The show takes place Dec. 9 at the Columbus Civic Center. Tickets can be picked up by soldiers, spouses or adult dependents (with proper military ID) at two locations beginning Nov. 24 at 9 a.m., according to a post on Fort Benning's Facebook page:
- The base's morale, welfare and recreation headquarters on Muir Street.
- Tickets & Travel in the commissary mall on Marne Road.
Retired service members and their families aren't eligible for tickets, according to the post, but that could change as the event nears.
WWE has put on an annual military tribute show since 2003, with the first two installments coming from Iraq and the third from Afghanistan. The show moved stateside in 2010 and visited Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington, last December.
This year's show will be the first to be taped the same night as one of the WWE's mainstay programs, with service members in the audience able to catch matches for the weekly "Smackdown" broadcast.
"Tribute to the Troops" will air Dec. 17 on USA network as a two-hour special, and again Dec. 27 on NBC as a one-hour broadcast, WWE said in a Monday news release.
WWE stars likely to appear include John Cena and The Big Show, who wrestled in the main event on the 2003 Baghdad card (Cena won, then "Stone Cold" Steve Austin attacked both wrestlers to the cheers of service members).
This year's card has not been announced, nor have any guest performers — past tribute shows have included Kid Rock, Flo Rida, Daughtry and The Muppets, among other celebrity guests.
