A 3rd Infantry Division soldier who was hospitalized Dec. 6 after a live-fire training accident died from his injuries Tuesday in an off-post hospital, according to an Army release.
Sgt. Michael Trask was taken to a Savannah hospital after being injured during an evening training event at Fort Stewart, Georgia.
"Trask was an outstanding soldier that helped his unit sharpen their skills with every training event," said Lt. Col. Justin Harper, his battalion commander. "His experience and personal example were instrumental in developing his unit into a cohesive team."

Trask, 31, had been with the 3rd Infantry Division since December 2015, according to the release. He was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 67th Armor Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division.
He had previously deployed in support of operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom.
Posthumously promoted to sergeant, Trask’s awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal and Combat Infantryman Badge, according to the release.
