A U.S. Army Alaska soldier died from a gunshot wound at his off-post residence Monday, officials announced Thursday.
Spc. Sean Michael O’Connor, 22, was an infantryman assigned to 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson.
O’Connor was found in his residence in Anchorage. Officials said they do not suspect foul play.
O’Connor enlisted in the Army in January 2014. He had been assigned to U.S. Army Alaska since June 2015.
“We are saddened for his family and all of those touched by this tragedy,” Lt. Col. James Uptgraft. commander of 1st Battalion, 501st Infantry Regiment, wrote in a message to the unit. “Please keep those affected in your thoughts and prayers.”
Anchorage police and Army Criminal Investigation Command are investigating.
