Officials have identified a soldier killed Saturday in a motorcycle accident near Fort Bragg, North Carolina, as Sgt. Roginald Michel.

Michel, 37, died of his injuries after he crashed in Hoke County, according to a Tuesday release from Fort Bragg.

The soldier, who joined the Army in 2008, had been a nodal network systems operator maintainer for 1st Battalion, 7th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 108th Air Defense Artillery Brigade.

“This tragic incident is a significant loss for the Panther Battalion,” Lt. Col. David Short, the 1st Battalion, 7th Air Defense Artillery Regiment commander, said in the release. “We are grateful for Sgt. Michel’s dedicated service to our nation, and he will be sorely missed.”

Michel had been stationed at Fort Bragg since 2011, following a tour at Seoul Air Base, South Korea. He deployed to Jordan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in 2016, the release said.

His awards and decorations include two Army Commendation Medals, three Army Achievement Medals, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal and two Overseas Service Medals.

He is survived by his parents, a brother and three children, the release said. A memorial service at Fort Bragg is planned for a time to be announced.
