A soldier assigned to Fort Hood, Texas, has died in Georgia, Fort Hood officials announced Monday.

Spc. Deangelo Marquis Mathis, 22, was found unresponsive Wednesday, July 26 in Sly County, Georgia, officials said in a release. 

Circumstances involved in his death are under investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and U.S. Criminal Investigation Command.

Mathis joined the military in July 2012 as a Patriot missile-launching station enhanced operator, according to the release. He had been assigned to 1st Battalion, 44th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 69th Air Defense Artillery Brigade at Fort Hood since May 2014.

His home of record is listed as Mauk, Georgia. 

Mathis’ awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, two Army Achievement Medals, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and Korea Defense Service Medal.
