LAKEHURST, N.J. — Security closed a gate at a military base in New Jersey for about two hours because of a suspicious vehicle.

Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst spokeswoman Christina Douglas says the commercial van was stopped at the Commercial Gate on the Lakehurst side of the installation around 8 a.m. Thursday.

Douglass says security investigated and reopened the gate and the inbound lanes of the Main Gate by 10 a.m.

There is no word what made security suspicious of the van.

The joint base was formed in 2009 with the merger of Naval Air Engineering Station Lakehurst, Fort Dix and McGuire Air Force Base. It is approximately 18 miles southeast of Trenton.

Lakehurst was the site of the airship Hindenburg explosion in 1937.
