A board that convenes Oct. 26 will initiate a two-part process to identify a new generation of senior leaders for the Army Reserve.
Officers selected by the later board will be assigned to Troop Program Units and Individual Mobilization Augmentee positions. If selected for assignment, Active Guard and Reserve members and Army Reserve officers performing active duty for operational support will be released from active duty for subsequent assignment to TPU and IMA positions.
To qualify for consideration by the boards, colonels and brigadier generals must have at least 12 months of consecutive service with the Army Reserve as of Oct. 15, 2015; have a mandatory removal date after Oct. 1, 2016, and be in compliance with Army physical fitness and weight control standards.
Members of the Retired Reserve or the Army National Guard are not eligible for consideration by these boards.
Additional criteria requires that colonels have at least 18 months' time in grade on Oct. 1, 2015, and by that date have spent the past 12 months on the Reserve Active Status List or the Active Duty List, or a combination of both.
Basic-branch officers must be less than 59 years of age on March 1, 2017, and chaplains and health services officers less than 61 year of age on that date.
Three-year extensions are available for certain Army Medical Department officers, but the officers must be able to complete the tenure before reaching age 67.
Basic-branch applicants must have credit for completing a senior service college course or equivalent fellowship program.
USAR brigadier generals are in the zone of eligibility if they will have at least one-year time in grade on Oct. 1, 2015, and have served continuously on the Reserve Active Status List or Active Duty List, or a combination of both, by that date.
Additionally, officers must be less than 61 years of age on March 1, 2017, to qualify for consideration.
