A soldier from the 108th Air Defense Artillery Brigade was found dead near his home on Fort Bragg, North Carolina, the Army announced Friday.

Staff Sgt. Thomas Seiler, 48, was found Wednesday. A native of Conyers, Georgia, Seiler was a Patriot launching station enhanced operator with 1st Battalion, 7th Air Defense Artillery Regiment.

"Staff Sgt. Thomas Seiler was a beloved member of the 1-7 ADA team and will be sorely missed," said Lt. Col. Jason Townsend, commander of 1st Battalion, 7th Air Defense Artillery, in a statement. "Thomas was an exceptional teacher, coach and mentor to our soldiers, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time."

Seiler's awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal with two bronze oak leaf clusters, the Army Achievement Medal with one silver oak leaf cluster, the Korea Defense Service Medal, three Overseas Service Medals, and the Army Service Ribbon.

Seiler is survived by his father, three brothers and a sister.

The circumstances surrounding Seiler's death are under investigation.
